Later Youth — Living History
Digital-first campaign supporting Later Youth's album Living History — built around a custom Shopify landing page and redirect hub that maintained data control while funnelling fans to streaming platforms. Meta paid media campaigns with video-focused creative targeted key European markets.
Overview
Later Youth is an independent band managed by Howard Mills / No Other Purpose. When they prepared to release their album Living History, they needed more than a standard digital marketing campaign. They needed an owned infrastructure — a destination that could capture first-party data, drive streaming conversions, and support live dates across Europe, all while maintaining direct relationships with their audience rather than renting reach from platforms.
Tell Your Friends built the complete digital ecosystem: a custom Shopify landing page and redirect hub that funnelled fans to streaming platforms while capturing data on every visit, supported by Meta paid media campaigns across key European markets.
Challenge
Independent bands face a structural problem in digital marketing: every streaming platform, social channel, and ticketing service captures its own data, but none of it belongs to the artist. Later Youth had growing audiences on Spotify and Instagram, but no owned infrastructure to turn that attention into a direct, durable relationship.
The album campaign needed to do three things at once: drive streaming numbers on release week, sell merchandise and tickets directly, and build an email list that the band would own long after the campaign ended. Each objective required a different digital strategy, but they had to feel like one coherent campaign to the audience.
Approach
Owned infrastructure: We built a custom Shopify landing page that served as the campaign’s digital hub. Every visitor was funnelled through this page, with smart redirects to Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms based on their device and region. The page captured first-party data on every interaction — email signups, merch views, ticket clicks — building a fan database the band owned outright.
Paid media: We ran Meta paid media campaigns with video-focused creative, targeting key European markets where the band had existing streaming traction and live date commitments. Campaign structure was built around three objectives: awareness (ThruPlay-optimised video ads), streaming conversion (direct platform links), and live date promotion (event-specific creative for each city).
Creative approach: Video creative was built around the band’s own visual identity — Jo Dudderidge’s direct-to-camera content, tour posters, and album artwork adapted for feed and story formats. Each asset was designed to feel native to the platform while maintaining the Living History aesthetic.
Results & Impact
The campaign delivered measurable growth across audience, streaming, and direct sales metrics. The owned landing page captured first-party data that would otherwise have been lost to third-party platforms. The paid media campaigns drove targeted reach in key European markets ahead of live dates.
The infrastructure built for Living History — the Shopify hub, the data capture system, the paid media playbook — remains in place for future releases and tour campaigns. Later Youth now has an owned digital system that compounds with every campaign rather than starting from zero each time.
